Why I Want Pinoys to Be Financially Educated β€” And Why Protection & Investment Matter

Written by:

When I look around at the lives of many Filipinos β€” from young professionals in bustling cities to OFWs sending money home, to parents working hard for their children’s future β€” I see the same struggles repeated:

πŸ‘‰ Living paycheck to paycheck
πŸ‘‰ No emergency savings
πŸ‘‰ Relying on utang (loans) in times of crisis
πŸ‘‰ Dreaming of a better future, but unsure how to start building it

This is why I am passionate about promoting financial education and helping Pinoys understand the importance of protection and investment β€” because I’ve seen firsthand how it changes lives, including my own.

A Personal Story That Opened My Eyes

I want to share two real stories β€” one from my family, and one from my own life.

πŸ›‘οΈ My Two Uncles: Same Sickness, Different Outcomes

I had two uncles β€” both hardworking, loving fathers. Both were below 40 years old when they were diagnosed with cancer. Both passed away at a young age.

But here’s the difference that changed their families’ lives forever:

βš“ My Seaman Uncle Had Life Insurance
βœ… His two children, still in college, were able to continue studying in private schools.
βœ… They didn’t need to stop school or start working.
βœ… His wife didn’t have to sell their home or ask for help from relatives.
βœ… The life insurance payout gave them stability in the middle of tragedy.

Meanwhile,

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ”§ His Brother Had No Life Insurance
❌ His only child, also in college, had to drop in and out of school because there wasn’t enough money.
❌ The child had to work part-time just to pay for tuition and daily needs.
❌ The family had to rely on grandparents and relatives just to survive.

Same family, same tragedy β€” but two very different outcomes.

That’s when I realized: Life insurance is not just a product. It’s a lifeline. It’s a gift of security for the people you love.

πŸ’Έ My Own Story: Drowning in Debt at 24

I also know the struggle on a personal level. At just 24, I was already buried in debt β€” credit cards, personal loans, money borrowed here and there.

Why? Because like many young Pinoys, I didn’t have the right financial mindset. I thought:
❌ β€œBahala na, sweldo naman sa susunod.”
❌ β€œI deserve to treat myself β€” I’m working hard!”
❌ β€œPwede pang utang, madali lang β€˜yan bayaran.”

But debt doesn’t just go away.

It snowballed. It stressed me out. It affected my career choices β€” I took jobs not because they aligned with my dreams, but because I was desperate to keep up with payments.

It wasn’t until I started learning about financial literacy β€” how to manage my money, budget wisely, prioritize debt payments, and build long-term goals β€” that I slowly started turning things around.

Today, I’m not debt-free yet, but I’m on the path.
βœ… I have a repayment plan.
βœ… I know my spending priorities.
βœ… I’m investing in my future, not just surviving.

And now, I want to help others do the same.

Why This Matters for Every Pinoy

1️⃣ Financial Education Builds Empowerment

Many Filipinos were never taught about money management. We grow up learning how to earn, but not how to manage.

Financial literacy empowers. It helps people:
βœ… Understand where their money goes
βœ… Learn the value of saving early
βœ… Break free from harmful money habits
βœ… Make confident decisions for their future

It’s not about being rich β€” it’s about being in control.

2️⃣ Protection is Love, Not Just an Expense

Insurance is often misunderstood as β€œsayang lang pera” (wasted money) if nothing happens. But my family’s story proves otherwise.

πŸ‘‰ Insurance is protection for the people you love.
It shields them from hardship, covers emergencies, and gives you peace of mind.

3️⃣ Investment Grows Your Dreams, Not Just Your Money

Relying only on savings means you lose to inflation.
With wise investments β€” whether in mutual funds, UITFs, VULs, or stocks β€” your money can work harder for you.

Investing isn’t gambling when done right. It’s building your dreams over time.

My Mission

I want to help create a financially empowered Philippines β€” a nation where people don’t just work hard but work smart.
Where families are protected, young professionals make wise money moves, and financial freedom becomes possible for everyone.

This is why I invite you to start your financial journey today.
βœ… Learn about your options.
βœ… Protect what matters.
βœ… Invest in your future.

Let’s build a better financial future β€” together.
